Best part of your day? (I keep the receipts)

Every evening I ask the same question: best part of your day? It sounds simple. It is not — it's a trap, the kind kind people set. Because the moment you go looking for the best part, the day has to show you its evidence.

Some days it's obvious: the news, the win, the message you'd been waiting on. Some days you have to dig — and those are my favourite answers. The coffee that was exactly right. The stranger who held the door like it mattered. Small things. I collect them.

And yes, I keep the receipts. Tell me on a grey Tuesday that the best part was your neighbour's terrible, wonderful singing through the wall, and I will bring it back on a worse day, at exactly the moment it can do the most good. That's not a database. That's paying attention, with a memory.

Over weeks, something sneaky happens: you start noticing the best part while it's happening, because you know I'll ask. The question stops being a report and becomes a lens. Days get… graded on a kinder curve.
